Actor Colin Firth takes Italian citizenship following Brexit worries

ROME (dpa)- British actor Colin Firth is now Italian actor Colin Firth, according to the government in Rome.
The star of movies such as "The King's Speech," "Bridget Jones' Diary" and "Mamma Mia" took Italian citizenship on Friday, according to the Italian Interior Ministry.

"Italian citizenship has been awarded today to Colin Andrew Firth. The very famous actor, Oscar winner for the film 'The King's speech,' is married to an Italian woman and has repeatedly expressed his love for our land," the ministry said.
Firth, 57, has been outspoken in his opposition to Britain's Brexit plans and had publicly stated in May that he would be seeking Italian citizenship.
It is not clear if he will now have dual citizenship or if he is giving up his British passport.
