Bahraini hunger striker in 'good' health: ministry

DUBAI- Jailed Bahraini Shiite activist Abdulhadi al-Khawaja, who is on hunger strike, is in "good" health, state news agency BNA reported on Sunday.
A representative from Bahrain's public prosecution visited Khawaja on Sunday at the hospital where he met his doctors who assured him that the hunger striker "is in good and stable health and is geting all necessary medical care," BNA said.

It said that the Danish ambassador also visited the hospital.
Khawaja, who also holds Danish nationality, has been on hunger strike since the night of February 8-9 to demand his release from prison, where he is serving a life sentence.
But his wife Khadija al-Moussawi told AFP that the activist has "stopped drinking water since Friday night."
During a telephone call with him on Saturday, "his voice sounded weak and he spoke slowly," Moussawi said.
His lawyer Mohammed Jeshi also voiced doubts over official reports on Khawaja's health. "If he is healthy as authorities claim, why then was I not allowed to meet him despite my repeated requests?"
Khawaja was sentenced with 21 other opposition figures on charges of conspiring to overthrow the ruling Sunni monarchy of Bahrain during last year's protests in the Shiite majority state.
The Court of Cassation will hand over its final verdict in their case on Monday.
Catherine Ashton, the chief diplomat for the European Union, last week called for Khawaja's release.
Bahrain has refused an offer by Denmark to take him in.
