Callas' Italian costume designer dies

She began her career in 1953 with Orson Welles and worked with Zeffirelli repeatedly after 1956.
"I had them send me pictures of the artists who played various roles, so I could design the costumes taking into account the play or film and what the stage director wanted, but also the face and body of the artist," she once said.
Her film work is mostly linked to Zeffirelli's.
In 1986 she received an Oscar nomination for "Othello".
In a tribute, Zeffirelli, who will be 88 next month, said, "My little Anna was a rare talent.
"Everything seemed to be very difficult for her but she was the best designer I have ever seen."
Zeffirelli and Anni last worked together in the making of "Tea with Mussolini" and "Callas Forever".
