Oxford college takes down portrait of Aung San Suu Kyi

LONDON (dpa)- A portrait of Nobel Peace Prize winner Aung San Suu Kyi has been removed by her British alma mater, according to a statement by St Hugh's College, part of the University of Oxford.
However, the college where the de facto leader of Myanmar studied as an undergraduate said that the reason for the removal was that it wanted to display a new portrait of Japanese artist Yoshihiro Takada.

Suu Kyi has been heavily criticized in the past few weeks over the crackdown by Myanmar's military on the Rohingya minority population.
Nearly 500,000 members of the minority Muslim community have been forced to flee into neighbouring Bangladesh to escape the attacks.
