Russian baritone Hvorostovsky cancels shows due to brain tumour

MOSCOW, RUSSIA- Celebrated Russian baritone Dmitri Hvorostovsky announced on Thursday the cancellation of all summer shows after being diagnosed with a brain tumour.
"Dmitri must cancel all performances from now until the end of August," a note on his official Facebook page said. "He has recently been suffering from serious health issues, and a brain tumour has just been diagnosed."

The condition has not affected Hvorostovsky's voice but "his sense of balance has been severely affected" though he is "very optimistic for the future," it said.
The silver-haired Siberian-born singer has been due to perform in Munich, Monte Carlo, as well as the Festival del Sole in California over the next two months.
Hvorostovsky, who is best known for his baritone roles in Italian operas, is still scheduled to appear in September at New York's Metropolitan Opera in Il Trovatore together with Anna Netrebko.
