Abu Dhabi is a valuable addition to UAE Higher Education Sector

Dr. Mugheer Khamis Al Khaili, Director General of Abu Dhabi Education Council (ADEC held a meeting with Dr. Wael Benjelloun, President of Université Mohammed V - Agdal, Rabat and the accompanying delegation who paid a visit to the new headquarter of UM5A- Abu Dhabi as part of their current visit to Abu Dhabi. Dr. Hamdan Muslim Al Mazrouei, President of the General Authority for Islamic Affairs and Endowments (GEA), Mr. Mohammad Mattar Al Kaabi, Director General of GEA and Dr. Farouk Hamada, Religious Advisor at the Crown Prince Court, also attended the meeting.
“Opening a branch of this distinguished university comes in line with the directives of our prudent leaders for continuously developing education and providing students with the best educational opportunities to qualify them for contributing to the achievement of comprehensive development in UAE and meeting the various needs of the job market”, added Dr. Al Khaili. This comes also in line with ADEC strategy for elevating the quality of higher education in order to graduate qualified scientists, researchers and thinkers who can help Abu Dhabi transform into a knowledge-based economy and realize the goals of Abu Dhabi Economic Vision 2030.
Dr. Al Khaili indicated that G12 graduates, who achieve 80% or more, will have an opportunity to get a Bachelor Degree in Islamic Studies from UM5A- Abu Dhabi; those willing may also obtain their Masters Degree as well. “Study at UM5A - Abu Dhabi focuses on teaching Arabic, English and French and qualifying graduates to develop and enrich their knowledge in the Islamic studies so as to be able to communicate at the global level”, he said.
National students studying at UM5A - Abu Dhabi will be entitled to get free housing and transportation. “Moreover, single students will get a monthly stipend of AED 6250, while married students will receive AED 6850,” Dr. Al Khaili pointed out.
“Currently, 62 undergraduate and post graduate students are enrolled at the University. Several applications have been received from students and are being reviewed by the university. This year, a new Masters program in “The Characteristics of Religious Rhetoric and the Importance of Dialogue” has been introduced and attracted many applicants. UM5A- Abu Dhabi will organize orientation campaign targeting school students to inform them about the programs offered by the University in the upcoming academic year.”
“I am pleased to see this cooperation between UM5A and ADEC,” said Dr. Wael Benjelloun. This project is targeting the future generations and reflects the deeply-rooted and brotherly relationships between Morocco and UAE.
During the meeting, the organizational structure of UM5A-Abu Dhabi was discussed, in the presence of Mr. Salem Al Sayari, ADEC’s Executive Director of Support Services, Dr. Idris Boutaj, Vice President of UM5A, Dr. Abderrahim Benhadda, Dean of Faculty of Letters and Human Sciences, Dr. Fakhitha Regrago, UM5A Counselor, Dr. Jihad Mohaidat, ADEC’s Program Manager, Office of Global Partnerships & Development and Dr. Hisham Gomaa, ADEC’s Manager of Planning and Performance Management.
Dr. Al Khaili accompanied Dr. Benjelloun and the Moroccan delegation into a tour in the new headquarters of UM5A-Abu Dhabi that accommodates world-class library, classrooms, mosques, cafeteria and gym.
The delegation visited ADEC headquarters and were briefed by Dr. Hisham Gomaa on ADEC strategy and programs aiming at developing the educational system in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi.
Established in Morocco in 1957 as the first Moroccan university, Université Mohammed V – Agdal has been providing students and researchers with excellent academic services for more than half a century. Université Mohammed V – Agdal - Abu Dhabi was established by the school year 2009-2010 and is located at the intersection of Hamdan Street and Najda Street, Abu Dhabi.
