YAOUNDE - Cameroon's President Paul Biya named presidential aide Yang Philemon as his new prime minister to replace Ephraim Inoni, who had held the post since December 2004.
Philemon, a 62-year-old anglophone magistrate, was the presidency's deputy secretary general and previously served in several ministerial posts.
"Before being named prime minister, I knew we had a lot of things to do to develop Cameroon. We have time to do it," Philemon told reporters.
Inoni, 61, is also an English-speaking member of the ruling Democratic Rally of the Cameroonian People (RDPC).
Biya changed nine other ministers including the defence chief, Remy Ze Meka, who was replaced by the former national police chief, Edgard Alain Mebe Ngo'o.
The cabinet shake-up had been expected for several months.
