DAMASCUS, Mirjam Schmitt, Khalil Hamlo and Amr Mostafa (dpa)- Eight people were killed in a car bombing on Sunday in a north-east Syrian village close to the border with Turkey, according to the Foreign Ministry in Ankara.
Another 20 were wounded in the blast in the town of Saluq near the town of Tal Abyad, an area recently seized by Turkish forces, the ministry said.
The victims were transferred to Turkey due to lack of nearby medical facilities to treat them, according to a medical source.
Local residents told dpa that the blast was powerful and caused damage to a number of nearby shops and cars.
Ankara blamed the attack on the Kurdish People's Protection Units (YPG), which it sees as terrorists linked to separatist fighters in Turkey.
Turkey and its allied Syrian rebels seized Tal Abyad and other areas after launching a military offensive in north-east Syria on October 9 against the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) which is dominated by the YPG.
