'Clash of the Titans' tops weekend box office

LOS ANGELES- Greek mythology blockbuster "Clash of the Titans" dominated the North American box office this weekend, final industry figures showed Monday.
The film based on the exploits of Perseus and his battles with the serpent-haired Medusa and a fearsome sea monster, topped the standings with 61.2 million dollars, Exhibitor Relations reported.

In second place was the African-American melodrama "Why Did I Get Married Too?" by writer, director, and actor Tyler Perry, with 29.3 million dollars in receipts.
The animated adventure "How to Train Your Dragon" was in third place, pulling in 29 million dollars, while the debut of the romantic Miley Cyrus movie, "The Last Song," was fourth with 16 million dollars in ticket sales.
Fifth place went to the live-action version of Lewis Carroll's children's classic "Alice in Wonderland" starring Johnny Depp, which has earned nearly 310 million total, including 8.2 million dollars this weekend.
The 3-D wizardry kept time-bending jacuzzi users at bay, with the R-rated comedy "Hot Tub Time Machine" earning eight million dollars for sixth place.
That put it ahead of "The Bounty Hunter," a comedy starring Jennifer Aniston and Gerard Butler, which came in seventh with a 6.1 million-dollar take, and "Diary of a Wimpy Kid," an adaptation of the Jeff Kinney cartoon novels, which slipped three places to eighth place with 5.3 million.
Ninth place went to the romantic comedy "She's Out of My League," in which a stunningly beautiful woman and a dorky guy fall improbably in love, which earned 1.51 million dollars this weekend.
It came just ahead of Martin Scorsese's "Shutter Island" which was in 10th place, and also earned 1.48 million dollars.
