The incident happened after the boy went to the staff room several times, at other teachers' request. On his third visit, tasked with relaying a message from another teacher, the accused allegedly threw the kettle at him.
The suspect could be charged with assault and abuse of authority, the official said.
In December, a court jailed maths teacher Haitham Nabil Abdel Hamid for six years for kicking a schoolboy to death for failing to do his homework.
At the time Hamid's lawyer was quoted as saying: "Hitting (a child) is not banned in schools and my client did not break the law."
