Egyptian police have arrested a high school teacher who allegedly threw boiling water in a pupil's face, a security official said on Monday.
The 12-year-old boy was taken to a Cairo hospital with second degree burns to his face after the teacher allegedly threw a kettle full of water at him for interrupting his break.
The suspect could be charged with assault and abuse of authority, the official said.
In December, a court jailed maths teacher Haitham Nabil Abdel Hamid for six years for kicking a schoolboy to death for failing to do his homework.
At the time Hamid's lawyer was quoted as saying: "Hitting (a child) is not banned in schools and my client did not break the law."
