Zazi "did knowingly and intentionally conspire to corruptly alter, destroy, mutilate and conceal objects, to wit: glasses, masks, liquid chemicals and containers, with the intent to impair the objects' integrity and availability for use," the indictment says.
Zazi is the father of Najibullah Zazi, who is accused of plotting to bomb New York with "weapons of mass destruction."
The indictment against the father did not explicitly link the two, but appeared to refer to the alleged plot involving Najibullah Zazi.
The son is accused of having bought large amounts of chemicals and possessing other bomb-making materials.
Zazi senior was previously charged in his home town of Denver, Colorado, with lying to the FBI when asked about his son's case.
