A Greek fishing boat caught an ancient bronze statue in its nets as it trawled in the Aegean sea, the country's culture ministry said on Monday.
The statue is the torso of a horseman, clad in a tunic and breast plate and dating from the late Hellenistic period, around the turn of the first century before Christ, the ministry said in a statement.

He carries a sword in a scabbard engraved with an image of Nike, the goddess of victory.
The fisherman caught the statue while sailing near the Aegean island of Kos and Kalymnos on Wednesday. He handed it to authorities and it has been brought to Athens to be cleaned and restored.
