BERLIN- The German penchant for order and stability stems from the country's divided, chaotic history, the Goethe Institute cultural organisation said in a short video.
"Germany was divided into several independent states. Each state was always surrounded by enemies and could never be sure of its stability and security," the Institute said.

The country's history is characterised by chaos, wars and crises, it said, adding: "This is why Germans like structure and stability, and never leave anything to chance."
"They feel more at ease when propriety is respected," the Institute said, adding that written agreements are a source of security.
