Asghar Farhadi's psychological thriller

PARIS (dpa)– Oscar-winning Iranian director Asghar Farhadi's psychological thriller starring Javier Bardem and Penelope Cruz is to open next month's Cannes Film Festival, organizers announced on Thursday.
"Everybody Knows" ("Todos Lo Saben") is Farhadi's first movie in Spanish and the first Spanish-language movie to launch the world's leading film festival since Pedro Almodovar's "Bad Education" in 2004.

Cruz plays Laura, who returns to her native village in Spain from Buenos Aires with her husband to face a series of personal upheavals, which place strain on her family ties.
"Everybody Knows" is the third film from Farhadi that has been selected to compete for the 10-day movie showcase's top honour - the Palme d'Or for best film.
Farhadi's previous entries in Cannes' main competition were "The Salesman" in 2016 and "The Past" in 2013.
"The Salesman" and his 2012 movie "A Separation" won Farhadi Academy Awards for best foreign-language films.
In 2012 "A Separation" became the first Iranian film to win the top prize - the Golden Bear for best picture - at the Berlin Film Festival.
Cannes is set next week to unveil details of the films to be screened at the 71st festival.
