Ireland completes ratification of Lisbon Treaty

DUBLIN - Ireland completed its ratification of the EU's Lisbon Treaty on Thursday when President Mary McAleese announced she had signed a special legal instrument following a Yes vote in this month's referendum.
A statement from the president's office said she had "signed the Twenty-Eighth Amendment of the Constitution (Treaty of Lisbon) Bill 2009"
The Yes vote triumphed by 67 percent to 33 percent.
Ireland is the only EU country constitutionally obliged to put the treaty to a referendum.
The Irish approval leaves the Czech Republic as the only EU member state still to ratify the treaty, which is designed to streamline decision-making in the 27-nation bloc.
