Israel objects to Egypt newspaper 'Nazi' cartoon

CAIRO- Israel's embassy in Cairo has accused a newspaper run by Egypt's ruling party of publishing an "anti-Semitic" cartoon that compared Israeli soldiers to Nazis, an embassy spokeswoman said on Monday.
The newspaper, Al-Watany Al-Yawm, published the cartoon after Israeli commandos raided a flotilla carrying aid to the Gaza Strip last month, killing nine Turkish activists.

"The bottom line was they compared Israel with Nazis. This was not legitimate criticism. It's defamation," she said.
The media and public in Egypt, which signed a peace treaty with Israel in 1979, are largely hostile to the Jewish state over its policies towards Palestinians.
The US-based Anti Defamation League accused Arab newspapers of publishing "cartoons punctuated by vicious anti-Israel and anti-Semitic images" after the flotilla deaths that led to an international backlash against Israel.
