NOUAKCHOTT - Lawyers representing a Mauritanian journalist who has served a six-month prison sentence denounced his "arbitrary detention" Friday and demanded his immediate release.
Hanevy Ould Dehah, accused of immorality on his website Taqadoumy, was arrested in June in the mainly Muslim west African country. He was due for release from Nouakchott prison on December 24.

The Taqadoumy website is part of the opposition to President Mohamed Ould Abdel Aziz, came to power in a coup in August 2008 and was then elected head of state in July.
The Mauritanian Journalists Union has held protests in support of Dehah's release.
