LAUSANNE, SWITZERLAND- US Secretary of State John Kerry welcomed Saturday the release of two American citizens held in war-torn Yemen by the rebel Huthi militia.
Kerry aid it was too early to reveal the identities of the missing Americans who had been flown to Oman, but he welcomed their release which he said was the fruit of much diplomatic effort in recent days.
Briefing reporters in Switzerland after international talks on Syria, Kerry said the pair had been brought out by a plane ferrying out wounded Yemenis hurt in a funeral bombing.
"An airplane flew from Muscat to Sanaa that took the Huthi delegation back to Sanaa and it took wounded people from the funeral attack out back to Oman," Kerry said.
"This is something we've been working on for the last days and it also secured the release of two American citizens from the Huthi," he added.
"Their names are not being released at this point in time, but we're very pleased with that obviously and we're continuing to work on other hostage situations there and elsewhere."
