Kitty litter fury in Britain over cat dumped in bin

LONDON - British authorities said Tuesday they would question a woman caught on camera dumping a cat in a rubbish bin, as the footage gained notoriety on the Internet.
The 20-second clip shows the woman stopping in the street in Coventry, central England, to stroke family pet Lola, who is less than a year old.

She looks at the bin and then has a quick look round before opening the lid, picking up the cat by the scruff of the neck, dropping her in and shuffling off.
Police and the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (RSPCA) have identified the middle-aged woman and said they would interview her.
Lola was stuck in the plastic bin for 15 hours but was discovered after owners Darryl and Stephanie Mann heard her mewing.
They worked out what happened after checking footage from a closed-circuit television (CCTV) camera which they had installed at their house.
They expected to see alcohol-fuelled teenage louts pulling a prank but instead found a grey-haired lady with a handbag.
"At first it looked so innocent," Darryl Mann told BBC television.
"As a lot of people do they stop to stroke Lola, then all of a sudden she picks her up and chucks her in. It's just bizarre."
"I'm very, very shocked," he added.
Stephanie Mann said: "I don't know what went through her head but it was just disgusting to watch and it broke my eight-year-old daughter's heart.
"If she can do it to my cat, she could do it to anyone's," she told the Coventry Telegraph newspaper.
They put the footage on the Internet in a bid to find the culprit.
An RSPCA spokeswoman said the woman had been identified.
"The RSPCA is leading an investigation into the incident and will be interviewing the woman shortly," she said.
"Coventry Police are supporting this investigation and urge the public to leave the matter to be dealt with correctly by the authorities."
