LOS ANGELES (dpa)- Lady Gaga has been hospitalized for "severe pain," according to a short statement by the US pop star on Thursday.
"I was taken to the hospital its not simply hip pain or wear and tear from tour, I'm in severe pain," the 31-year-old singer wrote on Twitter.
"I'm in good hands w/ the very best doctors," she added.
Gaga, who was scheduled to perform at a concert in Rio de Janeiro on Friday, cancelled the show saying that she was "devastated" that she was not well enough to take part.
The musician didn't say when she was hospitalized or where.
Gaga mentioned a week ago that she was about to take a break. During an interview at the Toronto Film Festival, where she introduced a documentary about herself called "Gaga: Five Foot Two," she said she wanted to continue her creative work, but use the time to heal.
The documentary goes behind the scenes with Gaga ahead of the release of a new album and as she prepared for her Super Bowl half-time show in February.
The singer is currently on tour, with dozens of performances scheduled through December. So far, only the Rio de Janeiro show has been cancelled.
