Misuse of genetics an 'attack on humanity', says pope

Pope Benedict XVI on Saturday freshly condemned the practice of discriminating through genetic selection as an "attack against all of humanity".
"We have a tendency to favour...efficiency, perfection and physical beauty to the detriment of other dimensions of human existence, weakening the respect due to each human being despite defaults in their development or genetic diseases," the pontiff told attendees of a Vatican genetics conference.
The pope alluded to the misuse of genetics in Nazi Germany, saying that eugenics was in the past used "like the fruit of hate against a population".
The leader of the world's 1.1 billion Catholics said there are signs the "hateful" practice still exists.
