Nigerian university teachers launch indefinite

LAGOS- Nigerian university teachers have launched an indefinite strike to demand the implementation of a pay agreement and adequate funding of the universities by government, local media said Tuesday.
The newspapers quoted the head of Nigeria's Academic Staff Union of Universities, Professor Ukachukwu Awuzie, as saying the strike became necessary at the end of a two-week warning strike by the union last month.
Teaching is among the worst-paid professions in oil-rich Nigeria and teachers last year went on strike to push government to honour a previous pay deal and upgrade facilities on campuses.
