Nobel laureate Herta Mueller hospitalised: reports

BERLIN- Nobel literature laureate Herta Mueller has been hospitalised, according to German media reports Tuesday, as her editor said she had cancelled all remaining appointments this year due to ill health.
The Romanian-German writer who won the Nobel in 2009 "is receiving good care and is on the road to recovery," spokeswoman Christina Knecht of Mueller's publishing house Carl Hanser told AFP.
Knecht added however that Mueller, 60, would make no further public appearances in 2013 "due to illness".
Several newspapers had reported that Mueller was forced to cancel a lecture in the Swiss city of Bern planned for last Sunday.
The daily BZ said Mueller was rushed to hospital in the southwestern German city of Muellheim near the Swiss border for emergency surgery due to an intestinal perforation.
Born in August 1953 in the traditionally German-speaking Nabat region of Romania, Mueller became an outspoken literary voice of her country in the grip of Nicolae Ceausescu's oppressive regime.
After being refused permission to emigrate to West Germany in 1985, she was finally allowed to leave in 1987 at the age of 34 after her barbed criticism of her native country's government earned her death threats from the secret police.
She now lives in Berlin.
