Norway police to strike for 90 minutes

OSLO (AFP) - Norway's leading police union has called on its members to observe a 90-minute strike over work conditions Thursday.
"We expect the strike will be widely observed and that it will affect all the districts in the country," said Arne Johannessen, president of the 12,000-member Politiets Fellesforbund union, which includes almost all police officials.

"We will only fulfill vital jobs like headquarters operations so we meet our responsibility toward society," he told AFP Wednesday of the strike scheduled for between 1000 and 1130 GMT the following day.
The union is protesting the Norwegian government's decision to decree police work hours without negotiating with their representatives.
The country's police department said it was too early to announce measures to help prevent a potential rise of infractions during the strike on Thursday.
