WASHINGTON- US President Barack Obama on Tuesday called Saudi Ambassador Adel Al-Jubeir to express solidarity over an alleged plot by Iranian government agents to assassinate him, the White House said.
"President Obama underscored that the United States believes this plot to be a flagrant violation of US and international law," a White House official said, after the US leader made the call while traveling in Florida and Pennsylvania.

The official said Obama also held a meeting of his national security team to thank them for their "exceptional work in disrupting this plot" and for close coordination among law enforcement and intelligence agencies.
Another official said Obama's national security advisor Tom Donilon briefed Saudi King Abdullah on the plot during a trip to Saudi Arabia on October 1 to discuss a wide range of national security and regional issues.
Obama was first briefed on the alleged plot, revealed by Justice Department officials earlier Tuesday, in June, officials said.
