Moscow - Russia's military has confirmed that it conducted airstrikes on Tuesday on targets in Syria's north-western Idlib province, the war-torn country's last rebel stronghold.
Four Russian warplanes conducted precision strikes on targets of the "terrorist group Jabhat al-Nusra," the Russian Defence Ministry said on Wednesday, referring to an organization that now calls itself Hayat Tahrir al-Sham.
The strikes targeted storage facilities housing drone aircraft, the Russian Defence Ministry said in an email. Two drone aircraft attacked Russia's Hmeimim airbase in north-western Syria the same day, the statement said.
A monitoring group, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, said on Tuesday that at least a dozen people were killed in Russian airstrikes on Idlib as Syrian state forces prepare for an offensive into the region.
