LOS ANGELES- The son of actor Ryan O'Neal and the late actress Farrah Fawcett pleaded no contest to a felony drug charge Friday and was ordered to a one-year drug treatment program.
Redmond O'Neal, 24, was arrested in April after being found in possession of heroin while taking a friend to visit an inmate at a jail in Castaic, northwest of Los Angeles, according to justice officials.
Santa Clarita Superior Court Judge Graciela Freixes ordered O'Neal to spend a minimum of one year in a residential drug treatment program, along with three years on probation.

The judge suspended a six-year state prison term which will be waived if O'Neal complies with the terms of his probation.
O'Neal was admitted April 30 to a drug program in connection with two separate drug cases against him involving heroin and methamphetamine. The cases will be dismissed upon completion of the drug treatment program.
His mother, Fawcett, who rose to fame playing one of the "Charlie's Angels" in the 1970s television series, died June 25 after a long battle with cancer. O'Neal was temporarily released from jail to attend her funeral.
