Shrek rules North American box office for third week

LOS ANGELES- Lovable animated ogre Shrek left his rivals green with envy by claiming top spot at the North American box office for a third straight week, final figures showed Monday.
Dreamworks's "Shrek Forever After" -- the fourth film in the franchise -- took 25.5 million dollars to boost its total take to 183.2 million dollars after three weeks, according to box office tracker Exhibitor Relations.

"Killers," an action-comedy starring Katherine Heigl and Ashton Kutcher, premiered in the number three spot, with 15.8 million dollars.
Fourth place went to "Prince of Persia," a movie adapted from a video game series, starring Jake Gyllenhaal and Ben Kingsley, which took 14 million dollars in its second week.
Meanwhile "Sex and the City 2," fell to fifth from last week's third place finish, earning 12.3 million dollars.
Kiddie comedy "Marmaduke" debuted in sixth place with 11.6 million dollars, while blockbuster "Iron Man 2," earned 7.9 million, putting its total earnings at more than 291 million dollars since its release
A new film, the mad science and monster flick "Splice" earned 7.4 million dollars, while "Robin Hood," starring Russell Crowe as the legendary English outlaw, slid to the number nine spot with 5.4 million dollars.
Rounding out the top ten was romantic drama "Letters to Juliet" with just over three million dollars.
