New York's Metropolitan Opera celebrated its 125th anniversary with a star-studded gala that netted 6.3 million dollars, the opera house said Monday.
The event on Sunday also celebrated Spanish tenor Placido Domingo's 40-year career at the Met.

Attended by New York's glitterati, the gala also included performances by Russian baritone Dmitri Hvorostovsky, Peruvian tenor Juan Diego Flores, Natalie Dessay and Joseph Calleja, all under the direction of James Levine and his Met orchestra.
In all, 23 excerpts of classic operas were enacted, including costumes, set decorations and videos that traced Met's history since its creation in 1883.
The Met reaped in 6.3 million dollars in ticket sales from the event.
