BEIJING (dpa)– Typhoon Lekima killed 43 people and left 17 missing after battering China’s coast over the weekend, authorities said Monday.
Thirty-eight people died in the eastern Zhejiang province with 10 still missing as of Monday morning, state broadcaster CCTV reported.

Torrential downpours in the province triggered a landslide that blocked rivers, creating an artificial reservoir. When it burst, masses of water flooded the village of Yantan.
Another five people died and seven went missing in Shandong province, where the typhoon made landfall Sunday night.
The typhoon forced the relocation of more than 183,000 people across the province and caused economic losses of 211 million dollars, local authorities said.
In total, about 1 million people in Lekima's path were forced to evacuate.
Search and rescue efforts were underway.
The typhoon hit Japan and Taiwan on Friday, killing one person in Taiwan and causing several injuries in Japan.
