VATICAN CITY - A group of young Palestinians offered a black-and-white keffiyeh, the traditional Arab scarf, to Pope Benedict XVI at the end of his general audience in Saint Peter's Square Wednesday.
Two members of a 27-strong group of pilgrims from Bethlehem draped the scarf over the pope's shoulders as he shook hands with them.

The keffiyeh, which was popularised by the late leader of the Palestinian Liberation Organisation, Yasser Arafat, has become the symbol of the Palestinian people.
The pope is due to visit Jordan, Israel and the Palestinian territories between May 8 and 15, with a visit to Bethlehem scheduled for May 13.
