POTSDAM, GERMANY (dpa)- Following the success of an exhibition of the late work of Pablo Picasso, the Barberini Museum in Potsdam next to Berlin is launching a new show with 54 masterpieces from the Barberini Palace and the Galleria Corsini in Rome.
"Since our founding in 2017, it has been our wish to realize an exhibition with the collection of our namesake in Rome," museum director Ortrud Westheider said Thursday.
The exhibition, entitled "Ways of the Baroque," includes the work of Caravaggio (1571-1610) and his successors, with Caravaggio's work "Narcissus" created in the years 1597-1599 expected to be the star of the show.
The exhibition "Ways of the Baroque. The National Galleries Barberini Corsini in Rome" opens on Saturday for the public.
It forms the heart of an Italian festival in Potsdam.
After their visit to the museum, visitors can take a walk around the city with its Italian-inspired architecture as well as the parks and palaces of the city, including Sanssoci, which have been recognized by UNESCO as World Heritage sites.
