Ohio man executed for Christmas murder spree

WASHINGTON - An Ohio man who led a band of adolescents on a Christmas time killing spree in 1992 that left six dead was executed by lethal injection on Tuesday, a rights group said.
Marvallous Keene, 36, who his lawyers said was mentally disturbed at the time, was sentenced to death for leading the gang in a series of robberies and murders in Dayton, Ohio, between December 24 to 26, 1992.

He was found guilty of five of the six killings, including that of an 18-year-old mother shot dead in a telephone booth and a 34-year-old man killed in his home. Two children were murdered after Keene feared they would turn him in.
Keene, who was 19 at the time of the killings, confessed to the crimes and expressed his remorse. His three accomplices were sentenced to life imprisonment.
He was the third person to be put to death in Ohio this year, and the 35th across the country.
