At least 19 killed in blast in Syria's Idlib, watchdog says

CAIRO (dpa)- An explosion in Syria’s northwestern city of Idlib on Monday night killed at least 19 people including 13 civilians, according to a human rights group.
It is not clear if the blast was caused by a missile or by an explosive device inside a vehicle, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said.

The number of those killed is likely to increase with dozens more seriously wounded and missing beneath the rubble, the Britain-based watchdog said.
The volunteer rescue group White Helmets wrote on Twitter that ten people were killed when the explosion caused the collapse of a residential building in the neighborhood of Wadi Naseem.
White Helmets added that civil defence teams were retrieving victims from the rubble.
Idlib is the largest opposition stronghold where the dominant group is Hayat Tahrir al Sham, an Islamist alliance spearheaded by al-Nusra Front, a former al-Qaeda affiliate in Syria.
