At least 40 wounded in car bombing in northern Afghan city

Kabul (dpa) – At least 40 people were wounded when a car bomb exploded in the northern Afghan city of Aybak, officials said on Monday.

There are fears that people have been killed, said deputy provincial governor Sefatullah Samangani and local councillor Raz Mohammad.
After the car bombing, there was an exchange of gunfire between assailants and security forces stationed in the area, the officials said.
The exact target of the bombing was not clear, but the vehicle exploded near the intelligence agency's department for the province of Samangan, and the city centre, according to the officials.
No group has claimed responsibility for the incident.
On Sunday, accusing the Afghan government for delaying the start of talks, Taliban spokesman Zabiullah Mujahid said the Taliban was "left with no option but the continue the war."
