Belgian star calls on men to beard up for a government

BRUSSELS- Belgian movie star Benoit Poelvoorde on Tuesday called on his countrymen to stop shaving "until Belgium rises again" and forms a new government.
Belgium last weekend won Europe's post-war record as the country longest without a government as feuding politicians from the Dutch-speaking north and French-speaking south failed to patch up differences.

"Don't be surprised by the stubble", said Peolvoorde, an actor in his 40s who is a star in France and Belgium but little known on the international scene.
"We have decided to stop shaving for as long as Belgium has no government," he said in a 30-second clip on
"Let's keep our beards until Belgium rises again," he added.
The country, divided over the fate of its Dutch- and French-speaking regions, has been rudderless since an inconclusive June 13 general election.
