Bleating sheep shepherded over London Bridge in old tradition

LONDON (dpa)- A flock of about 30 sheep was shepherded over the landmark London Bridge on Sunday in accordance with an old tradition allowing honoured citizens to bring livestock into town.
The centuries-old custom grants so-called Freemen of the City the right to bring animals and tools into the city without paying taxes.

More than 600 citizens, honoured with the largely symbolic "freedom of the city" for their deeds, took part in the event this year despite rainy weather.
However, not all of former privileges of the freemen are still honoured today, such as the right to the bear a sword in a public.
The event, beloved by tourists, is organized by an association of wool producers, who donate the proceeds to charity.
