British ship seizes multi-million-dollar haul of meth in Middle East

LONDON (dpa)- A British ship patrolling waters in the Middle East recovered a haul of crystal meth worth millions, the Royal Navy said on Monday.
The HMS Defender's helicopter crew spotted the vessel during a dawn patrol while sweeping for smugglers and traffickers in the Arabian Sea, the navy statement said.

It was not flying any country's flag and did not appear to be fishing.
The crew seized 11 mail-bag-sized sacks of crystal meth with a total joint weight of around 130 kilograms, and a street value estimated at 3.3 million pounds (4.3 million dollars).
Commander Richard Hewitt said he was "really proud" the crew had intercepted the drugs before they reached the streets, but did not specify where the drugs had come from or if the vessel had a clear destination.
