Donald Trump Jr. made the offensive comparison when he recalled his rare feeling of emotion as he accompanied his father on a visit to Arlington National Cemetery on the eve of President Trump's inauguration in 2017.
"In that moment, I also thought of all the attacks we'd already suffered as a family, and about all the sacrifices we'd have to make to help my father succeed," Trump wrote in "Triggered," his new book-length screaming attack aimed at liberals.
The presidential son of extreme privilege took things one step further by spelling out exactly what his family gave up that could be equivalent to veterans who gave their life for their country: a few pieces of silver.
"Voluntarily giving up a huge chunk of our business and all international deals to avoid the appearance that we were 'profiting off the office,'" Donald Trump Jr. wrote in the book, using quotation marks to cast doubt on whether the Trump Organization would actually benefit.
In a remarkable act of poor timing, the book hit shelves just days before Veterans Day.
