Downing Street virus protesters urge Johnson to 'pause the system'

London (dpa) - Protesters outside Prime Minister Boris Johnson's official residence urged the British government on Monday to "pause the system" to focus on the coronavirus pandemic.

Dressed in white bio-hazard suits, face masks and goggles, the protesters in London's Downing Street urged Johnson to "support everyone [and] take care of the most vulnerable."
In a petition on the change.org website, the group said Johnson and his government are "failing to listen to the World Health Organization and are prioritizing the economy, disregarding the lives of the most vulnerable in our communities."
More than 270,000 people had supported a separate online petition to parliament by Monday afternoon, also urging the government to follow WHO advice, as most other European nations have done.
