Egypt court confirms death sentences against 75 over Islamist sit-in

Cairo - An Egyptian court upheld death sentences against 75 people charged in a case related to a 2013 sit-in protest by backers of deposed Islamist president Mohammed Morsi, state television reports.

Those convicted include senior officials in Morsi's now-banned Muslim Brotherhood group, the broadcaster adds on its website.
Thirty-one of the 75 defendants were tried in absentia. The sentences can be appealed.
