Ex-Beatle and new children's author McCartney recounts grandpa joy

LONDON (dpa)- Ex-Beatle Paul McCartney loves being a grandfather - or "granddude," he said in a radio interview on Friday.
McCartney has eight grandchildren - aged between 8 and 20 - from his daughters Stella and Mary.

"You know, I love them and I love being a granddad. And we spend quite a good bit of time together. We don't live near each other, but we go on holiday together, like Christmas," he said on Virgin Radio Breakfast Show.
The 77-year-old said he also saw the grandchildren in the summer and "sometimes me and (my wife) Nancy pick them up from school. So that's nice."
"It's ad lib," he said of being a grandparent.
McCartney said that he does what other "Grandudes do," a reference to his debut children's picture book "Hey Grandude!" published earlier this year.
The grandfather in the story invites his grandchildren for a series of adventures. The illustrations were by Canadian artist Kathryn Durst.
