Hamilton gifted Bahrain GP victory after Ferrari disaster

Sakhir, Bahrain - Mercedes are gifted an improbable one-two from world champion Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas at the Bahrain Grand Prix after Ferrari pair Charles Leclerc and Sebastian Vettel met double disaster.

Race leader Leclerc missed what seemed an assured first career win over engine problems in the closing stages which allowed both Mercedes to pass him. The young Monegasque at least salvaged his first podium in third because the race ended behind the safety car after both Renaults had to retire.
Vettel had earlier spun while trying to defend second place from Hamilton, damaging his tyres and front wing in the process and having to settle for fifth.
Hamilton got his 74th career victory as Mercedes made it two one-twos in as many season races after Bottas had won from him in Australia.
