Johnson: Britain to be trade super-hero, does not need EU rules

London (dpa) - Britain will make a Superman-style change to become a "supercharged champion" of free trade and does not need to accept EU rules in negotiating its post-Brexit relationship with Brussels, Prime Minister Boris Johnson says.

Johnson says global trade needs a country that is willing to step forward as a champion of free trade.
"[It needs] some country ready to take off its Clark Kent spectacles and leap into the phone booth and emerge with its cloak flowing as the supercharged champion of the right of populations of the Earth to buy and sell freely among each other," he says.
"The UK is ready for that role," Johnson adds.
