Macron: US has 'marginalized itself' in Middle East peace process

Paris - French President Emmanuel Macron said the United States has "marginalized itself" in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict with its recent formal recognition of Jerusalem as Israel's capital.

Macron, who met with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas in Paris on Friday, reiterated his opposition to President Donald Trump's "unilateral" decision on Jerusalem, a move that inflamed the region.
Macron said he was also against a declaration of a Palestinian statehood: "That would be a reaction to another unilateral decision that has led to unrest in the region."
In a rebuke to the Trump administration, the UN General Assembly voted Thursday 128 to 9 in favour of a resolution condemning the Jerusalem decision.
