Maduro, Guaido focus on Venezuelan military in struggle for power

Buenos Aires - Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro and self-declared interim president Juan Guaido were competing for the military's support amid the South American country's growing crisis.

"Always loyal, never traitors," cried soldiers during Maduro's visit on Sunday to the 41st Brigade at Fort Paramacay. Maduro marched alongside Defence Minister Vladimir Padrino through the barracks during an exercise.
Guaido meanwhile tried to bring soldiers to his side by publishing an amnesty law approved by the parliament which guaranteed impunity for the military if they join in the restoration of the democratic order.
"Share this with the soldiers in your family, with your friends and neighbours," he wrote on Twitter. Opposition lawmakers and student leaders handed the document out to National Guard officials.
