Merkel: Brexit moving 'step-by-step', but trade remains off limits

Brussels - German Chancellor Angela Merkel says Britain has sent "clear signals" during Brexit talks, which she described as moving ahead "step-by-step," but said that trade was to remain off limits until at least December.

Merkel said Theresa May's plea over dinner failed to sway her opinion, but stressed she was committed to maintaining the "good spirit" of the negotiations.
May called on the other 27 EU countries to start talks among themselves about a "close economic partnership," with Britain but other EU leaders have said they want more details from London about financial commitments and citizens rights.
