Palestinian man killed after attack at West Bank checkpoint

Tel Aviv (dpa) - A Palestinian man was fatally shot on Wednesday after he hit a border policeman with his car at a West Bank checkpoint near Jerusalem and then stabbed him with scissors, police said.

The policeman was moderately injured, according to police. Other officers in the area had responded to the attack and shot the man.
Police also said that a pipe bomb was also found at the scene at a checkpoint near Abu Dis, a suburb of Jerusalem in the West Bank.
Attacks on members of the Israeli security forces and border guards in the West Bank and Jerusalem are not uncommon occurrences, though they have almost completely dropped off since the beginning of the coronavirus crisis.
Israel captured the West Bank and East Jerusalem during the 1967 Six-Day War. Palestinians want those areas for a future state.
