Sarkozy, Ban to lunch in New York ahead of Mandela

PARIS - French President Nicolas Sarkozy is to lunch with UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon in New York on Friday on the eve of a birthday concert for Nelson Mandela, the Elysee Palace said Thursday.
His working lunch with Ban at the French consulate will focus "mainly on major global topics, notably climate issues and reforming global governance," Sarkozy's official residence said in a statement.
Their meeting will also be an opportunity to review regional crises and peacekeeping operations, the statement said.

Travelling with Sarkozy is his wife Carla Bruni-Sarkozy, who will sing at Saturday's concert in honour of Mandela, the anti-apartheid activist who went on to become South Africa's president. He turns 91 that day.
The Sarkozys will return to Paris immediately after the concert.
