Seven injured after explosion and fire in German kebab shop

Berlin - Six residents and a firefighter were injured after an explosion and fire in a kebab shop in the central German town of Moringen overnight to Monday.

According to police, they sustained injuries through smoke inhalation.
The explosion took place in a building which houses both commercial and residential units.
The owner of the kebab shop finished up business and locked the premises from the outside. Shortly afterwards, the explosion occurred and a blaze broke out.
Heavy smoke blocked the escape route for many of the building's nine residents - they were instead rescued from the roof by firefighters using a ladder.
Police could not immediately provide any information as to the possible cause of the fire, but said it had caused approximately 200,000 euros (237,000 dollars) worth of damage.
